Organic Soybean Production and Processing Advances in Togo
Togo’s organic soybean production continues to expand as the small West African nation deepens its trading ties with the EU and other keen buyers. The sector has benefitted from grassroots organization as well as policy support from the top. Organic soybean stakeholders met about 90 miles outside the capital Lomo in Atakpame on September 6. Organized by Jonction de Croissance Agricole of
Commercial soy protein isolate (SPI) dispersions (10, 15, and 20% concentrations) were subjected to high pressure treatment at selected pressure levels (350, 450, 550, and 650 MPa) for 15 minutes at 23 ± 1.5°C.
Value chain study of organic soybean from Togo
This study of the organic soy value chain in Togo was carried out in March and April 2018 for the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ), by an international team comprising a specialist of organic value chains, a specialist in conventional markets and a specialist in international markets. This dynamic sector fully contributes to the country’s
1. Introduction. Soybean protein isolate (SPI) is a major industrial product of soybeans and an important source of vegetable protein [1].Its protein content exceeds 90 %, and it is used as an animal-protein alternative because it is nutritious and cholesterol-free, moreover, it is widely used owing to its desirable functional properties such as emulsification and foaming [2].
Ultra-high-pressure passivation of soybean agglutinin and safety
Soybean agglutinin (SBA) is a heat-sensitive anti-nutritional factor (ANF). It affects nutrient absorption and causes organism poisoning. This study explored the SBA passivation ability and mechanism by ultra-high pressure (HHP), a non-thermal food processing technology. The results indicated that more than 500 MPa HHP treatment reduced the SBA
Abstract. A minimal residual oil content in the meal coming out of the hexane extractor is a clear benefit for a crushing plant; the more oil yield the better revenue for the crusher. In a modern and efficient extraction plant, a residual oil content ≤ 0.5% for soybean meal is expected.
Improvement of delivery properties of soybean 7S protein by high
In this study, curcumin@high-pressure homogenization-soybean 7S protein/nanoparticles (CUR@HPH-7S-NPs) were prepared by an anti-solvent method. The physicochemical properties results showed at a CUR concentration of 4 mg/mL, CUR@HPH-7S-NPs had better size, encapsulation efficiency (EE), and zeta-potential values of 151.9 nm, 88.80 %, and −23.1 mV, respectively.
The bean now competes with cotton, which is the leading cash crop in Togo. In 2020, Togo became the first exporter of organic soybeans to the European Union, ahead of China and India. According to the government, the milestone was unthinkable just five years ago, following that in 2015, the country only produced less than 25,000 tons of soybeans.
- How many tons of soybeans does Togo produce?
- In 2015, Togo produced less than 25,000 tons of soybeans. Since then, production increased five-fold to more than 200,000 tons in 2021. How did this happen?
- How has access to credit impacted the soybean industry in Togo?
- Access to credit has played an important role in the success of the soybean industry in Togo and the government has negotiated access to export credit. In total, 281 million West African CFA Francs were mobilized from three commercial banks in Togo and made available to more than 4,000 producers and exporters.
- Why is organic soybean production growing in Togo?
- Togo¡¯s organic soybean production continues to expand as the small West African nation deepens its trading ties with the EU and other keen buyers. The sector has benefitted from grassroots organization as well as policy support from the top. Organic soybean stakeholders met about 90 miles outside the capital Lomo in Atakpame on September 6.
- Does Togo support the soybean industry?
- The government of Togo is an active supporter of the soybean industry. It regularly meets with key industry bodies and validates ongoing reglementary tests. In addition, there is an interparliamentary coordination committee established by presidential decree to closely monitor the sector¡¯s performance.
