Palm oil refinery: Four new operators to soon become operational, despite short raw oil supply - Business in Cameroon
(Business in Cameroon) - Four new palm oil refiners will enter the Cameroonian market in the coming months, according to sources inside the Oilseeds Refiners Association (ASROC). These newcomers include Société de raffinage du Cameroun (SORAC) and Nouvelle Raffinerie du Cameroun.
The 6,000 b/d modular refinery was launched in September 2021 and is running at full capacity. Its production includes 50% gasoil, 28% naphtha and the rest is 0.5% fuel oil. The expansion is expected to be completed in 2023. Upon the completion, the refinery will be producing naphtha, ULSD, ULSFO and LPG.

Although Cameroon, the largest palm oil producer in Central Africa, produced more than 450,000 tons in 2020, it still imports about 60,000 tons a year to meet its domestic demand. Most of the imported palm oil comes from Indonesia, Malaysia and Gabon.
Technical information of the contested project. Created in 1973 and inaugurated in 1981, SONARA is a topping reforming refinery. SONARA places at the disposal of the market the following petroleum products: butane, gasoline, jet fuel, kerosene, fuel oil, distillate, fuel oil. The Limbé refinery has a theoretical capacity of 2,100,000 tons/year.
