A study in China suggests a level of exposure to aflatoxin in peanuts of 0.218–0.222 ng/kg BW/day for children; while that in adults was 0.106–0.108 ng/kg BW/day (Ding et al. 2012 ). In African countries, population risk based on exposure to aflatoxins is substantially higher.
In Guangdong, China, from 2016 to 2017, 427 samples of peanut oil were screened for aflatoxin content. Aflatoxin B1 was detected in 22.5% of the samples in levels ranging from 15.4 to 49.9 µg/kg in 2016 and in 15.1% of the samples in a range of 8.8 to 22.2 µg/kg in 2017.
