Integrated Soybean Biorefinery | IntechOpen
In general, 78–80% of the grain is transformed into bran, and 18–20% of the grain results in oil, the remainder being fibrous material from the low value-added shell used as feed [ 6 ]. Soybean seeds contain on average 40% protein, 20% lipids, 34% carbohydrates (soluble and insoluble), and 4.9% ash.
The integrated corn-soy biorefinery is a sustainable zero waste system compared to conventional soybean oil extraction and corn fermentation. Co-products from the aqueous processing of other oilseeds could also be efficiently used to enhance corn ethanol fermentation and its co-product values.
Why is it Taking so Long? Solving the Oil Extraction Equation in Uganda
During the past decade, Uganda has become one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, but the country’s development needs have not yet been met, and the government’s revenue sources are less than sufficient to satisfy them. Therefore, when oil was discovered in 2006, hopes were raised regarding Uganda’s future, since the oil money could provide substantial funds enabling a
An integrated corn-soy biorefinery, which incorporates co-products of the enzyme-assisted aqueous extraction process (EAEP) of soybeans in the dry grind corn fermentation has shown potential with significant increase in ethanol yield (20%) and decrease in fermentation time (44 h) compared to corn only fermentation (Sekhon et al., 2015; Yao et al., 2011).
Soybean Oil Extraction and Processing | SpringerLink
Abstract. Soybeans are the dominant oilseed in both U.S. and world markets. During a typical year soybean production comprises over half the worldwide oilseed production ( Anonymous 1995 ). However, according to Dutton (1981) in the early 1940s, soybean oil was considered a poor quality oil, not suitable for food use, and more appropriate for
Recent exploration efforts in Uganda's oil and gas industry have had immense success. The most recent data indicates that about 3.5 billion barrels of crude oil has so far been confirmed to exist underneath the Albertine Valley. This policy brief examines how Uganda can accelerate growth and maintain intergenerational equity using oil resource.
Food Processing Using Supercritical Fluids | SpringerLink
The unique thermodynamic and fluid dynamic properties of different gases used as dense fluids, e.g., sub- or supercritical fluids can be used also for integrated extraction and in situ formulation like impregnation of solid particles, for formation of solid powderous emulsions, particle coating, etc. will be presented.
The product of soybean oil extraction with ethanol is a miscella (oil + solvent) that, after cooled down to less than 30 °C, separates into three phases: rich-in-alcohol miscella (poor miscella
- How to extract soybean oil?
- Soybean oil can be obtained by expelling or using an organic solvent. Although, the employment of solvent will always follow the expelling to increase lipid extraction yield .
- Can green solvents be used in soybean oil extraction?
- The application of green solvents in soybean oil extraction is reviewed. Hansen parameters and COSMO-based models can serve as a solvent selection tool. Direct substitution of hexane with green solvents is the most promising alternative. Kinetic models and the thermodynamic assessment are analyzed comprehensively.
- How many smallholder farmers will be able to grow soybeans in Uganda?
- In Uganda, the project has so far signed partnership agreements with eleven SMEs working in the soybean and sesame value chains with a potential to reach 90,000 smallholder farmers.
- Which mathematical models are applied to soybean oil extraction through immersion and percolation?
- Another mathematical model was applied to soybean oil extraction through immersion and percolation by Pramparo et al. . Despite not presenting the equations, it is interesting to highlight that all these models have considered the external mass resistance in the form of a general boundary condition given by Eq. (13).
