Characterization of waxes and residual oil recovered from sunflower oil winterization waste - Chalapud - 2017 - European Journal of Lipid Science
Two filter cakes from the sunflower oil winterization process were used to recover, fractionate and characterize their oil and wax fractions. Both samples presented high lipid content (75.35 and 58.21% dry basis) composed of 88.1 and 89.1% oil and 11.9 and 8.9% waxes.
The sunflower cake exits the prepress at approximately 100 C and 7–8% moisture, with 17–20% residual oil. The resultant prepress cake is compressed, yet porous. A cake breaking mechanism at the discharge of the prepress crumbles the cake into granules varying from 40 × 40 × 10 mm down to 2 × 2 × 2 mm in size, making them more ideally suitable for the downstream solvent extraction process.

The current study concentrates on chemical kinetics, thermodynamic, and overall mass transfer studies on production of biodiesel from waste cooking sunflower oil in transesterification reaction using bentonite-supported sodium methoxide catalyst. The kinetics and thermodynamics analysis of biodiesel from waste cooking sunflower oil was studied at three different temperatures, namely, as 50, 55
Effect of refining on quality and composition of sunflower oil - PMC - National Center for Biotechnology Information
Process flow diagramme for refining of sunflower oil. Degumming. The crude oil in the open conical tank was heated to 45 °C and degummed by adding 0.2 % phosphoric acid (50 % w/w strength) with slow agitation for 30 min. Then the oil was settled for 30 min and the water with dissolved gum was drained out.

The sunflower trade balance is -$2,894,000 research and government efforts to certify and release seed in Malawi, with other edible oils also showing negative in the country. This situation acts as a disincentive for balances,13 reflecting a net overall deficit of edible oil seed companies.16 It is exacerbated by weak intellectual production
- Does South Africa Import sunflower oil to Malawi?
- While the inefficient transport infrastructure in the region is an informal non-tariff barrier to oil imports, sunflower oil from South Africa still reaches Malawi at a cheaper price than local products and is of a better quality.22 While quality issues are being targeted proactively, in the interim this creates inefficiencies.
- What happened to sunflower production in Malawi?
- Sunflower production in Malawi peaked in the 1990s, but the industry collapsed after the only significant buyer left the market and prices plummeted.10 This history still informs a lingering pessimistic attitude around sunflower production to this day. community crushers, who sell the unrefined oil to local communities.
- Is there a demand for sunflower in Malawi?
- However, there is increasing demand for sunflower in the country. The sunflower trade balance is -$2,894,000 in Malawi, with other edible oils also showing negative balances,13 reflecting a net overall deficit of edible oil production domestically.
