NBE ships the gold separately differentiating and categorising it by their suppliers as the gold varies in quality and composition. This led the central bank to pay separately for each set of the refining. Every year the NBE loses 80 million Br to 100 million Br to incentivise the artisanal gold miners, including for gold refining.
The refinery will have the capacity to transform six million tons of crude oil, equal to about 120,000 barrels a day. Ethiopia currently uses three billion tons of fuel each year.
